Level Low Downs

Prep

This week, the Prep and Year 3 students got together for their first Reading Buddy session. During the week, the Year 3s had borrowed a picture story book from the library to read to their new buddy. The Prep's loved listening to each of their stories and are really looking forward to meeting again soon!

Year One

Hey Mum! We LOVE you! The Year 1s were very excited to invite mums for a breakfast this morning. We have been working industriously on our collages. We couldn’t be prouder. In our GEM lesson, we have shared why we are grateful for you. In Writing we have written about your loveliest qualities. During Investigations we made love heart cards. Our teachers can even recognise you in these pictures below. The gorgeous curly red hair below is a bit of a give-away but I bet you are all wondering about our beautiful stripey prisoner. Too cute!

Year Two

The Year 2 students are really enjoying their Geography studies and related work on reading maps.

Yesterday the focus was on recognising natural, managed and constructed features of places in our community. We read Jeannie Baker's book "Window" to help identify how places change over time. Today the students completed their Maths Mapping work on Seesaw, interpreting a map and identifying key features using a map key, a scale and a compass rose.

Year Three

Such a busy week in Year 3! There was much excitement in the Prep and Year 3 classrooms today due to our first buddy reading session. Both year levels thoroughly enjoyed spending time with each other and listening to and discussing the books they read.

In other areas, we have be practising and familiarising ourselves with NAPLAN in preparation for next week. We have been participating in  our Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS) program with a focus on skipping, running and dribbling skills through playing hockey.

Don’t forget to be at school by 8.15am on Friday for our excursion to the city. The buses will be leaving at 8.30am SHARP!

Year Four

It was World Maths Day yesterday (5th May) and the Year 4s embraced it wholeheartedly. We have been working together to practise our number knowledge, multiplication facts and problem solving skills. The day ended with an exciting maths escape room challenge. Who cracked the secret code?

Year Five

This week the Year 5s participated in their first cross country. It was such a good day for all 3 year levels to have some fun racing, while supporting their house. A huge thank you to Mr Lilburne for organising the whole day. A massive congratulations to Georgia (5J) and Hayato (5G) who both came first in their age groups. We were really proud of everyone for having a go and the support they showed one another.

Year Six

This week has been jammed pack with activities for the Year 6’s. House Cross Country was a success and the teachers were so impressed with the attitude displayed by all of students and house captains. Twelve students from Year 6 also competed in an interschool debating competition at Brighton Secondary College and practised their persuasive skills. They all went very well and learnt a lot from the experience.

A reminder to all Year 6 parents/guardians that transition forms are due in by Friday 14 May.
