Music Matters

As I write this we are still under the COVID restrictions placed by the government last Friday. This does not mean that our Twilight Concert will be cancelled. I’m sure we are all a little fatigued by “cancel culture” not the least by us involved in the Performing Arts. Last week I had a meeting with Mr Casey to discuss a possible way forward and it was decided that our concert will take place outdoors. This is perfect as the time of the concert means we will have enough light outdoors and the concert will finish at a reasonable time. Again, we will be livestreaming the concert. I thank all parents for their understanding through these difficult times and we are doing our best to provide meaningful opportunities for the students to perform in front of live audiences.

The concert is ticketed through Trybooking and there will be 200 tickets available: 2 adults per family.  Siblings are welcome to attend and do not need to be booked through the Trybooking site.

Here’s the link to book a ticket for Thursday’s Twilight Concert and the YouTube link for the livestream.

As this event will be live streamed, if you do not want your son to be filmed, please email privacy@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au

Our bands are at present preparing for their online eisteddfods. I have been hearing some excellent work in all ensembles and I trust this will mean some great performances. Our submission dates are in early June. We will release these videos via Woodchatta once they are done.

Our Drama groups' Climate Change project also continues its preparation and again we will launch this project once it has been completed.

Finally, I note that the Choir is slow in returning at SPX. We are not the only school experiencing this slow return with many of my colleagues at other schools saying that Choir has been the most difficult to revive after not happening at all last year. Recent restrictions have also thrown more confusion around singing. I can state that Choir is definitely back. Senior Choir is held every Wednesday at 7.30 am in Music Room 1 and Junior Choir has started this term on Thursday mornings, again at 7.30 am in Music Room 1. Singing is a great way to participate in the Performing Arts and a great way to promote mindfulness in our students. No audition, just turn up and be ready to have fun.
