APPLIED RE STUDENTS THROWN IN THE DEEP END
Applied RE students were literally thrown in the deep end as they started the year learning how to canoe. These students who had enrolled in a religious education course were starting to wonder what canoeing has got to do with religion.
As their canoeing skills developed they began to understand that they were also learning about teamwork, respect for different social and cultural backgrounds as well as valuing diversity in our community. Appreciating the beauty of our natural and human world and the relationships we share and appreciation for the role others play in shaping our lives. Throw in a freak storm on day one and you’ve got a pretty good story to share as well.
This picture depicts the students in the midst of the storm attempting to get back to the jetty. As with many things in life, we are stronger together and as a raft they were un-tippable against the gale force winds.
