Year 12 Psychology
On Friday, the 25th August, the Year 12 Psychology cohort attended a Sleep Education Program at the Epworth Freemasons Hospital in East Melbourne. This was a great opportunity for PRSC students to further consolidate their understanding of curriculum topics covered in class by participating in practical demonstrations, specifically, the use of sleep monitoring devices.
The pictures depict Patterson River students experiencing the use of sleep monitoring devices and CPAP mask for sleep apnoea.

Year 12 Physical Education
Over the past 4 weeks our Year 12 students have been undertaking a range of incursions and excursions related to their work in Unit 4. We have been lucky enough to have had fantastic instructors teaching us about different training methods such as Plyometrics, Interval training, Circuit Training and Pilates. These sessions have enabled us to get a first-hand understanding of what is involved in each of these methods and then be able to use this information to complete our assessment tasks for this unit.

Vocational Training Success
Boris Wang successfully completed hospitality training during Year 11 and 12. This year he will graduate with both his VCE Certificate as well as his vocational qualification, which is a Certificate II in Hospitality from Holmesglen. On the 17th of September the students hosted a Graduation “Mocktail” Party with flair and attended to their guests in a fantastic manner.
Next year Boris hopes to study at William Angliss Institute to pursue a career in Hotel Management.
Finn McCarthy - Queen's Scout
This term, Finn McCarthy of year 12 has attained his Queen's Scout Award.
The Queen's Scout Award is the highest award in the Venturer Scout section and carries an outstanding reputation within Scouting and the Community.
To receive this award, a Venturer must first
achieve Venturer Award standard in all Venturer Activities and then reach Queen's Scout Award standard in 5 activity areas.
Finn has worked incredibly hard over the past years to achieve this award, exhibiting not only the Scouting movement values but Patterson River Secondary College values.
R U OK?
This year the Senior VCAL students were involved in the R U OK? Day held at the college on September 12. Preparation for this event involved investigating ways to bring the issue of mental health wellbeing awareness to their peers.
Students prepared a range of activities to include all year levels in conversations about signs to look for that may indicate a friend is not okay, ways to support young people and the importance of mental health awareness, not just on that day but as their created slogan suggested, "Every day should be okay day!"
The avenues of support not only within our college but in the broader community were explored in class along with a number of other activities.
The VCAL students would like to thank Nurse Jackie Smith for her encouragement and support in organising this event and we all look forward to planning even greater events in 2020.
