PIERRE DE COUBERTIN AWARD 2015

The Physical Education and Sports Department nominate one Year 10 student annually to receive the Australian Olympic Committee’s prestigious Pierre De Coubertin Award.  Pierre de Coubertin was the founder of the Modern Olympic Movement.

His inspiring message reminds us that:  “The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part.  Just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle”.

This award goes to a student who has demonstrated the A.S.P.I.R.E. values that are consistent with the Olympic Movement throughout their Junior Physical Education and Sport Classes.

These values include having a positive attitude, great sportsmanship, pride, taking individual responsibility, showing respect and having the ability to express themselves through active participation.

This year’s award goes to Melina Ayers.  Melina was honoured by the Australian Olympic Council in a special award ceremony at MSAC late last term.  Past and present Olympians were in attendance.

Melina was given an opportunity to gain a valuable insight into the Olympic Movement, hear from Olympic athletes and further understand the importance of the Australian Olympic Council.

Congratulations Melina!  Thank you for being an outstanding ambassador for the school.

We look forward to seeing you represent Australia on the big stage in your passions of cricket and soccer.

YEAR 10 RECREATION UNIT

Several Year 10 classes have been thoroughly enjoying the Recreation Unit this term during their PE time slot.

As this is their last year of compulsory Physical Education, the PE Department aims to expose the students to a variety of local clubs and activities for them to pursue during their leisure time.  The students have enjoyed an archery clinic on the bottom oval with the Moorabbin Archery Club, a Fencing clinic in the School Hall with the Fioretto Fencing Club and bowling at our local McKinnon Lawn Bowls Club.

These clubs are very keen to encourage all students to take the next step and participate casually or become members.  We are very grateful for the strong community support we receive.  Our community links at work!!!
