CODE.CLUB - A BUSY TIME!
The NCSS Challenge in Python Programming started at 8:00am this morning and many students are already well into the first week of challenge tasks. Different to most competitions, the NCSS Challenge actually teaches programming in Python as you work through the five weeks. There are different levels of difficulty - Newbies (more for primary school), Beginners (where our students start), Intermediate (for those who did Beginners last year or who have some background in Python) and Advanced (for the serious coders among us).
Week one challenges need to be completed by 9:00pm Sunday evening, and then week two challenges are made available at 8:00am on Monday morning. The first week is not for challenge points, but allows students to get used to the interface and how the tasks are submitted and marked. This means that students can try it out and join any time up to the end of week two (although the earlier the better) and also decide if they want to try an easier or harder level of challenge.
Anyone wishing to sign up for the NCSS Challenge should bring $10 to the Bursar's office or email Ms Hatch.
To celebrate the start of the competition, we had two-headed Anacondas to award to any student who made it halfway through week one. Regular snakes were also available for those who completed some tasks.
Stesha and Sam finished their Part 1 challenge tasks and moved on to Google Cardboard.
Code.Club had ordered some unofficial cardboard kits and they had arrived, so Sam and Stesha went on to try putting together their VR cardboard viewers using some instructions from YouTube. Sadly with the shortened day due to General Assembly, we did not have time to actually try these out. Something to look forward to NEXT week!
