STUDENTS RIDING BICYCLES TO SCHOOL

Please ensure your child wears a proper bicycle helmet when riding to school and they take extra care when travelling the narrow streets of McKinnon.  We are very worried that some students do not exercise sufficient care they should on the roads.  Likewise, we ask all parents to drive and park cautiously around the College before/after school, and to be mindful of the many students riding bicycles to and from the College.

If your child rides their bike to school, they must lock it securely to the bike racks provided behind the Hall (near the Uniform Shop). Please ensure they have a sturdy bike lock and never leave their bikes overnight at school.

MIPS INTERVIEWS

As reported in the previous Newsletter, all students in Years 10 - 12 are currently being interviewed by the student management team, to reflect on their progress this year and identify ways to continue to improve.  In preparation for these interviews, all students in Years 10, 11 and 12 have completed a brief questionnaire, the responses to which parents can view on Compass.

To view your child’s responses: log in to Compass, select ‘Student Profile’, select the ‘Insights’ tab and click (for example) ‘Mid-Year MIPS Yr 10 2015’.

SENIOR SCHOOL INFORMATION NIGHT

The Senior School Information Night for our current Year 10 and 11 students (on Tuesday 11 August at 7:00pm) is a critical step in students’ preparation for the VCE (and VCAL). Current Year 10 students and their parents should go directly to the Hall, and Year 11s to the Library and Music Auditorium.  Available on the evening will be representatives from Victorian tertiary institutions and teachers from every senior subject that we offer.

To assist students’ preparation for Years 11 and 12, the College provides detailed information online about each subject, the subject-selection process and the formalities of the VCE and VCAL programs. This information will be available (for students and parents alike) on Compass and the College website on Tuesday 11 August.

VTAC PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT

An information session for the parents of current Year 12 students will be held at 7:00pm on Tuesday 18 August in the Alan Lawrence Lecture Theatre.  This evening will cover the process of applying for tertiary positions for 2016, including key dates for students to adhere to.  Students are not required to attend (as this information will be provided directly to students at school). The VTAC application process may seem daunting to families finishing their time at secondary school, and we look forward to supporting parents to understand this process and the transition into TAFE and university studies.

PARENT INFORMATION EVENING - DR MICHAEL CARR-GREGG

The College is excited to announce that Dr Michael Carr-Gregg will be giving a presentation for parents on the evening of 24 November 2015. Further information will be provided closer to the date.

CSEF - APPLICATIONS STILL OPEN

The College is still accepting applications for the Victorian Government's Camps & Excursions Support Fund (CSEF). Families with a relevant concession card (such as a Health Care Card) are eligible for support in meeting the costs of camps and excursions. Applications need to be submitted to the College by 14 August; further information and the CSEF application form have been posted for parents in Compass.

NAPLAN REPORTS

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority has confirmed that NAPLAN reports will be delivered to schools in the week commencing Monday 17 August.  This is earlier than previously advertised.  We will be sending individual reports by mail to students' home addresses as soon as they are received by the school.
