MCKINNON ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
The 2015 McKinnon Athletics Carnival is going to be held at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve on Wednesday 12 August.
All students are expected to meet at the Athletics Track at 8:30am for a roll call with their Year Level Manager. Students will then need to congregate with their House for the commencement of the Carnival starting with the fashion parade. Don't forget to get your outfits/costumes planned and compete in as many events as possible to win points for your House
Students will be dismissed from the track at approximately 3:00pm. In the event of inclement weather Mrs Binnion may dismiss students earlier in the day.
Good luck to all students and may the best House win!

YEAR 8 TO 10 ELMS SELECTION PROCESS FOR 2016
At the end of each year, there are usually a small number of vacancies that arise in our Year 8 to 10 ELMS classes. In order to fill these vacancies in the fairest and most equitable manner, we will offer the opportunity to sit for an ELMS selection test to the students that have achieved the highest overall grades for Maths and Science in their Semester 1 Learning Tasks and Assessments. These students will be approached later this term and given a package of bridging Maths exercises to complete before they sit the selection test at school early in Term 4. A position in the 2016 ELMS class will then be offered to students in rank order of their performance in the selection test. The number of vacancies available in the ELMS program at each Year Level will be determined early in Term 4. Parents, Students and Teachers are not required to make nominations or requests to enter the ELMS program. The selection process will be based on the objective evidence of the student’s achievements in their reports.
Please contact Mr McLeod if you have any questions concerning our ELMS program.

MELBOURNE SMALL BUSINESS AWARDS JULY 2015
Friday the 17th of July saw Shai Pik, Ella Speak and myself, accompanied by Business Management teachers Kate Jobson and Jason Evans, attend the Melbourne Small Business Awards. Held quarterly at the prestigious Woodlands Golf Course in Mordialloc, the event was a chance for small to medium-business owners to network between each other and further their business avenues and opportunities. Upon arrival we were greeted by a charismatic American man, Clarke James from Telstra Bayside, whose infectious personality and conversational skills demonstrated how business networking should occur.
Over a gourmet breakfast of salmon and eggs on toast we were treated to a speech by Don Eldin, a Paralympian who won gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Now managing fellow amputees in their sporting and business ventures, Eldin’s overriding messages included striving to create positivity wherever you go, and that you are only unable to do something because you are yet to learn how. Eldin’s effervescent personality and infectious smile made it impossible not to engage with and take on board his messages.
As the only students in a room of accomplished business owners it is fair to say that this was a largely experimental excursion for McKinnon. That we were warmly welcomed and left better people for the experience shows that this experiment paid off, and I am sure more students will get the chance to enjoy these breakfasts in the future.
