SECONDARY NEWS

From the Assistant Principal

Year 10 Graduation

The Holy Trinity Year 10 Class of 2016 graduated from Holy Trinity School last Friday.

For the first part of the week students had a Christian Living Camp at Copeton Dam.  Mr Gibson, Mr Lewis, Mrs McLachlan and Miss Bailey all spent time at the camp. A number of secondary staff, Father Roel and Mrs Rainger also joined the camp on Monday and Tuesday nights for the evening meal. Students enjoyed the experience and were able to spend quality time together before they go their separate ways next year.

The Graduation Mass on Friday was a moving experience for all who attended. Fr Roel congratulated the students, reminding them of the love and support they have received from their families and that something worth achieving may take time and patience. He encouraged them to be good friends with all in the community, to be lifelong learners and congratulated them on their Graduation.

Year 10 students had prepared a beautiful liturgy that included relevant scripture readings and inspiring hymns and music. Congratulations to Mr Gibson for his overall planning and also to Ms Melvin for her assistance with the band and choir.

The students and their families then gathered at school for a farewell morning tea, which was hosted by Year 9 students assisted by Mrs Watchirs and Mrs McCormick. The quadrangle area provided many shaded areas for family and friends to mingle with students and staff.

Friday evening saw the culmination of a hectic week with the Graduation Dinner at the RSM Club. The young men and women were a credit to themselves, their families and the school. After a formal presentation by Mrs Rainger, Mr Peter Mather responded on behalf of the parents. He spoke about Holy Trinity and the strong family connections made over his family’s time at the school. It was a fantastic night, staff, students and their parents and guests danced until late!

Once again Year 9 students assisted with the catering and distribution of meals. They worked tirelessly and received positive comments from the staff at the RSM. Thanks to the following students: Katie McMahon, Lacey Myhill, Maria Bates and Georgia Wilkinson

School Captain Elections

Congratulations to our newly elected School Captains Katie McMahon and Bailey Thomas. Their first official duty was conducted last night at Presentation Night where they certainly did an admirable job. Well done!

Commendation Assembly

Last Friday the Secondary Commendation Assembly was held in the school hall. As well as being a presentation ceremony we were treated to some performances from the Year 7 and Year 8 Music classes. Thanks to the parents who attended the Commendation Assembly.

Academic and Sporting Results 2016

Congratulations to all students who received awards at Presentation Night last night, or at the Commendation Assembly last Friday. The awards are indicative of sustained effort over many months from a variety of assessments. All students received their reports today and although not everyone can receive awards, many students have received comments illustrating their positive efforts. For others, advice on how to improve or mention of areas of concern, are equally valuable and should be addressed in the new year.

Best wishes are also extended to all of the Year 10 students who received their Graduation folders containing their final report and their school reference at Presentation Night last night. Students are now able to log on to the BOSTES site to receive their grades. These results will be added to as the students progress through their final two years of school.

Emily McCausland was awarded the prestigious honour of School Dux at the conclusion of Presentation Night. Emily received several awards during the evening and she is a worthy winner of the Sisters of Mercy Shield for Secondary Dux in 2016. Congratulations, Emily!

Thanksgiving Mass

Parents and friends of Holy Trinity School are invited to join us on Thursday at 9.30am in the Hall for this annual celebration that will be followed by morning tea. It is an opportunity for the staff to thank our parents for the various contributions they make during the year. We hope to see many parents and friends at the mass on Thursday.

LIVE IT! Program – The University of Newcastle

The school was notified last term that Wolfgang Wilson had been accepted to participate in the LIVE IT! program to be held in Newcastle this week. This program is a five day residential university experience for male students in Year 9. Ninety boys are accepted each year from regions across the State. Students participate in a program of activities, lectures, workshops and industry visits which are designed to inspire students to build upon their potential to succeed in Years 10, 11 and 12 and expose them to a wide range of study and career options that exist for HSC graduates. Congratulations to Wolfgang for his selection into the program, I’m sure this week will be a fantastic experience.

Friday Activities

Notes have been sent home outlining the program for class activities on Friday. Students will go to the pool, have lunch down the street and return to school for a movie. Students may wear plain clothes and are reminded to have hats and sunscreen. Notes must be returned in order for the students to participate in the festivities.

Lost Property

Students have been advised to check lost property. Many items of clothing and other belongings do not have names, making it very difficult to return to the correct owner.
