This week's top tip: Conversation

Reading isn’t just about sounding out words. The conversation you have with your child about the book is vital for their understanding of a text. You could talk about how the character is feeling, what might happen next or connect events to experiences you have had together.

Meet Miss Harney

Hello everyone, Greer here. As one of the Prep/One teachers at Ballan, I have the privilege of knowing lots of our wonderful Junior School families already! Those of you that do know me, know that my passion is teaching in the early years - yes it is full-on and at times exhausting (skinny flat whites from The Tin Plate help with this) but my goodness, it is SO rewarding and I absolutely LOVE it! For those families I am yet to get to know, I've been teaching at Ballan since 2016, I did take leave in 2017 to go and live and work in London, where my passion for teaching in early years was solidified. While living overseas I was able to travel to so many wonderful places. I was lucky enough to come back to Ballan, and have been here since. Away from school, I can be found reading, enjoying live music, and spending time with friends! I live in Ballarat and have three fur babies. Lola, my gorgeous and gentle Border Collie; Olive, my independent unimpressed grey girl, and over the summer holidays, arrived the newest little addition, Bert aka Bertie-Boo, the snuggliest fluffiest little ginger! I am so looking forward to 2022, it has a good vibe about it!
