YEAR 6 - LEADERSHIP DAY - TAMWORTH

Chocolate mud cake, Zooper Doopers and sausages sizzling. Am I in Heaven? Nope, welcome to Year 6 Leadership Day 2022. It was held on Tuesday, 8th March 2022 in the school Auditorium. We had so much fun on Leadership Day!! We had four guest speakers who were Adam Brook, Isla Farr, Sam Tickle and Matilda Barton.

The first guest speaker (Adam Brook) gave an amazing speech of his journey through cancer, how he set goals every day for himself throughout his battle and he made a promise to himself. When he was first lying in the hospital bed, he would get up out of bed each day and rehabilitate himself.

The second guest speaker (Isla Farr) is the Vice Captain at Oxley High School. Although Isla is disabled with cerebral palsy, she puts her mind to new challenges everyday. She pushes all the negative comments aside and leads the school with pride.

The next people we had at our Leadership Day were the two MCC captains (Sam Tickle and Matilda Barton). They spoke about how to be a good leader and what their leadership roles as a leader involves. They taught us to socialise with peers and other students and see if you have anything in common! You never know, one of those people you talk to might just become your best friend.

The first activity of the day was the tower challenge. Under your chair there was a coloured ribbon taped there, once you have tied the ribbon to your wrists you  had to sit down at your table with your colour group, then you discuss a group name with your team including the colour you got (e.g. the Pink Panthers), then came the first challenge! The first team challenge we had to do was to build a spaghetti building tower. You had to use your leadership skills to try and include every one.

The second challenge was all about ‘popping the put downs’ (negative comments) and you would have to write a negative comment on a balloon, then you would use a sphero and put something on it to pop the balloon.

Finally, the final activity of the day was the Amazing Race. Now I'm sure some of you have heard of it, if not, let me explain it. There are 4 activities to complete, such as blindfold hockey, Crocodile River, a three legged race, a cup pyramid challenge and dancing the Nutbush.

Leadership Day was a blast!! In our opinion, the ‘Amazing Race’ was super fun, as we all loved using our leadership skills to team up and cheer our other team mates on! Thank you to the all of the teachers for organising this day for us. We all appreciated this very much.

MANNERS MATTER AT ST NICHOLAS SCHOOL

Manners matter - not just some of the time, but ALL the time. This year we are taking time to remind students about what good manners looks like and sounds like. The past few weeks we have been focusing on the students making eye contact and using a person's name when speaking to someone. We have been encouraging them to stop, look at the person speaking and use the person's name to ensure they are using their best manners.
