Years F/1

This week has been the first full week of school for our Foundation students. I have finished the English On-line assessments that are required by the Department of Education to complete for each Foundation student in Victoria.  This assessment looks at the student's oral language, phonics knowledge, book awareness, speaking and listening skills. This is completed individually and allows a great opportunity for me to get to know our newest students.

Morning Reading

Each morning when all the Foundation and Year 1 students arrive at school, they will change their home reading books and read with one of our senior students.  We know that practise assists children to further develop their reading skills. If any parents would be interested in reading with our younger students in the mornings or would like to help in the morning sessions, please see me at school and we can organise a day and times.

English

This week our students have continued building on their sound and spelling knowledge. The Foundation students have been writing and building small words using the sounds we have learned so far. As you can see from the photos, the huge amount of concentration and enthusiasm they are showing.

Our Year One students have been working hard with sound/spelling sorts, reading texts and focusing on using correct punctuation when writing this week.

Mathematics

Our students have continued on building their number knowledge of 1-10 (F) and larger numbers for the Year Ones.  We have been learning about 2D shapes, their features, correct names and making patterns through shape.
