National Day of Action Against Bulling and Violence

Please note that St Joseph's will participate in this day on Thursday 17 March.

The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is an important day in our school calendar to join 6200 schools across Australia to say, “Bullying, No Way!”

We are pleased to announce the theme for the 2022 National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA) is Kindness Culture. The 2022 theme offers students an opportunity to learn about kindness, and demonstrate kind behaviours. Kindness plays an important role in bullying prevention.

On and leading up to Thursday 17 March, students will explore ways in which they can prevent bullying by incorporating a kindness culture into their day. Students will be encouraged to adopt a kindness culture by promoting inclusiveness, respect and community belonging.

Our school is taking action to empower its students to be part of the solution when addressing bullying in school communities.

What is Bullying?

Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening.  Bullying can happen in person or online, via various digital platforms and devices and it can be obvious (overt) or hidden (covert).  Bullying behaviour is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time (for example, through sharing of digital records).  Bullying of any form or for any reason can have immediate, medium and long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders. Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying.
