Principal's Message

March is a month of celebration at St Joseph's. Last week was Catholic Schools Week and students spent time being grateful for their Catholic School. The children have created a wall display with 100 Reasons Why We Love St Joseph's

More March Activities at St Joseph's

Catholic School's Week also coincides with our enrolment period and we ask that you support us in maintaining our enrolment numbers by promoting enrolment at St Joseph's. Any reduction in student numbers impacts our school funding and staffing levels.

Today, Year 6 began their two day camp at The Tops. Some students are in isolation but Year 6 teachers have provided some opportunities for them to join in from home.

On 17 March we will focus on the National day of Action Against Bullying. Our day will conclude with school assembly (Note that this is on Thursday instead of our usual Friday assembly)

On 18 March we look forward to celebrating the Feast of St Joseph. See the Our School Identity page of this newsletter for details and an invitation to parents.  (Assembly held on Thursday not on Friday)

2022 Vegetable Week, Fruit and Veg Month, and the Big Vegie Crunch begin from 28 March

1 April is Bike Immersion day (Years 3-6)

Keeping our children safe around cars

As we all know dismissal time in any school is a very busy time of the day. At St Joseph’s it is no different. The safety of the children is paramount at this time. Please always be aware of where your child is when accessing vehicles in the church carpark or on the surrounding streets.

When making a decision about parking please put the safety of children at the forefront of your mind and resist the temptation to take an easy option that puts others at risk.

Do you score a 10 out of 10 for Morning Drop Off and Afternoon Pickup?

Arrival and dismissal are a high demand times for parking around the school. I appreciate the effort most parents make to respect others and the road rules at this time. Thank you, gold star! Thank you for caring for all of our students and give yourself a 10/10 by:

  • Not stopping or parking in the park across from the church
  • Not stopping or parking on the road outside the church
  • Not stopping in the bus zone
  • Not doing U-turns in dangerous places
  • Not parking in neighbours driveways
  • Not driving into the driveway near the basketball court/ church
  • Not crossing the road in the bus zones
  • Not driving through the church undercover paved area
  • Not parking in the Anglican Church car park on Park Road
  • Being patient.

Everyone’s cooperation is needed.

Some parents and carers are asked to take greater personal responsibility when parking around the school and to be mindful of the traffic laws. Of particular concern are those who are parking in NO PARKING or NO STOPPING areas, too close to corners, and those who are making U-turns in very dangerous locations such as at the bottom of Rowan Street. These are ongoing problems for the school, the safety of children, and for our neighbours.

Please note:

  • the basketball court driveway should not be used for drop-off or pick-up as this is a high pedestrian traffic area.
  • do not drive through the church undercover paved area, this is a walkway during school drop off and pick up.

Do you cross the road in the bus zone area?

Some parents have also been observed crossing the road in the bus zone area and particularly when buses are stopped there. This is a very dangerous practice and you are asked to walk the extra few steps and use the school crossing zone.

We are a community that cares about everyone’s safety. Please join us all in caring.

For all things at St Joseph's, give thanks!

How does my child receive a Principal's Award?

Class teachers nominate students for Blue Merit Awards and are presented at the weekly assembly.  When five Blue Merit Awards have been received, students are eligible for a Principal’s Award. When students attain their 4th Principal Award, they are awarded a Principal’s Medallion at an assembly.  End of Term awards can be included as part of the 5 awards.
