myPEC House Captain Applications

At College, everyone is a leader. Whether students have a ‘badge’ or not, there are opportunities for leadership and to be role models.

This week we have been interviewing Year 8 applicants for myPEC House Captain positions. For myself and the Heads of House, it has been a real privilege to read each application letter and have the opportunity to explore how each applicant sees themselves as a leader. What I find interesting and encouraging is that some common themes have flowed through each interview:

  1. They are articulate, well-mannered, and well-presented students. They all held interesting conversations and reflected upon their experiences as Year 7s new to the College and/or the Senior School.
  2. They demonstrate a desire to help others to enjoy and do well in the myPEC. They all came across as genuinely kind and caring individuals.
  3. They also spoke about wanting to lead both in and out of the classroom. One example given was leading on and off the sporting field.
  4. They admired and respected their Year 12 House Captains from Year 7 and saw them as examples of strong leaders.

Well done to the Year 8 myPEC House Captain applicants and the Year 8 students in general. You are all excellent role models in the myPEC and I’m looking forward to an exciting year ahead for you all. The Year 7s are lucky to have you looking out for them during their transition into Senior School.

Reminder:

Independent Study Day on Tuesday, 8 March. Use this day to review, consolidate and read ahead.
