YEAR 5 UNIT OF INQUIRY
‘How the World Works’: IMAX Excursion
In Week 5, the Year 5s went on an excursion into the city! They went to IMAX which is a giant screen cinema.
They learned about natural disasters, such as floods, droughts, volcanoes and earthquakes. This links perfectly to their current Unit of Inquiry, ‘How the World Works’, which allows them to inquire into meteorological and geological events or changes which impact the planet.
The IMAX movie was a really cool experience because the screen is so large and it has surround sound, so you really feel like you’re THERE during some of the natural disasters, but also you get to see real life footage of how they form and how people respond to them.
Before the IMAX movie, they wandered around and went on a very long walk for about one hour before the cinema experience in the gardens next to the Royal Exhibition Building. There were beautiful flowers, trees and plants everywhere and in the middle of all of that was a fountain.
After they learnt about natural disasters they went into the Melbourne Museum. They had lots of fun and they saw fascinating dinosaur bones! They had a walk around the museum and saw much more; such as rocks and gems and ancient cultural exhibits.
The Year 5s really enjoyed the experience and found it really useful in their current unit. They hope to go on more fun excursions in the future!
The Year 5s want to say “thank you” to the parents who accompanied them on their excursion.

INTRODUCING MPS MEDIA CAPTAINS, 2022....
In our last edition you met Brigitte.
This week......
Hello! My name is Rowen and I’m one of the amazing media captains for this year!
At the end of last year, we started to talk about captaincy roles. At first I wanted to be a school captain, but unfortunately that didn’t work out, but I’m so glad it didn’t because then I wouldn’t have gotten this amazing role...
I love photography and taking photos with different angles and using editing to make them unique. I like taking photos around the school and seeing them on ClassDojo.
I’ve also always loved to write in school, and at home I like to write mystery stories and persuasive pieces.
I’m very excited to take action as a media captain, and show the rest of the school community what media is about.
I’m also very excited to participate in the radio program, writing articles for this newsletter and taking photos for Instagram and ClassDojo.
Thank you for reading my profile!
