The Year 8/9 hub can’t believe that we have made it to Week 6 without a lockdown! This is great for our school. Students are working well in their classes, the hub team and staff have noticed some students are getting tired which is testing their resilience. We continue to work on student expectations, re-enforcing being on time, in class and on task.
Our staff continue to deal with students who are bringing phones and headphones to school. Please remind them that they are to be put in a locker for the day as they are not permitted to be used in schools.
Please ensure your students are in correct uniform even as the weather gets colder. Students can wear blue and white shirts underneath their school shirts to help keep warm. There is also some great new warm options available on our uniform list. Hoodies, denim jeans, track pants and leggings are not permitted. If you need any assistance with uniform items please let us know.
Please click on the links below for more details of our current uniform:
In conjunction with progress reports (which were published this week) have a look at your child’s due dates for learning tasks on Compass so you can keep track of their progress. If you require assistance with this please contact us.
We have a MYLNS program up and running which means that tutors are taking small groups of students to work on targeted learning tasks to improve their academic success. The feedback on this program is very positive from all parties.
Our students are working well even though we have some building works happening during the day. Some students may be inspired to choose a career pathway in the construction industry!
Our value point system is a positive incentive for students to strive for success at school and in the classroom. Students who achieve 30 points or more per semester receive a small reward to celebrate their progress.
Well done to the following students who currently have the highest amount of School Value Points in Year 8 and 9
Each year Bairnsdale secondary College has a unique opportunity for Year 9 students to attend the Alpine School for Student Leadership program. The school for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Training initiative offering a residential education experience for year nine students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and collaborative team learning projects sourced from student’s home regions. Selected students will attend a term long program in which they develop their leadership skills through team building exercises with a goal to use these skills in both the school and wider community.
This year we had a large number of Year 9 students interested in attending the program and a selection process took place. Ms Greenaway and Ms Franklin conducted a number of interviews with all applicants throughout week 5 and 6 of the term and were blown away by the confidence and leadership skills shown by all students.
We are pleased to announce our team for 2022:
This term Year 9 Health and Personal Fitness students have been designing and implementing their individual fitness programs. Students have been designing programs around the gym equipment and resources we have at school.
On Tuesday 1st March we did a fish head dissection in Science. We looked at the fish gills and learnt about how a fish obtains oxygen. I enjoyed looking at the gills expand in water.
