What a start to the year 7B has had. They have taken to Bairnsdale Secondary College like ducks to water.
7B have all enjoyed getting to know each other and building friendships within the
classroom and the year level. All students have demonstrated a strength in inclusivity and teamwork by encouraging each other to give all tasks a go and happily working with a mixture of peers.
A key activity that 7B enjoyed participating in was a tower building challenge during mathematics. In small teams, they were to use straws, tape and blue tac to build the tallest tower they could. All students demonstrated resilience, problem solving, and a high level of communication skills.
As a class, 7B have been reading Fish In A Tree in English as part of our creative unit.
Through this novel study, students have been identifying characters, developing reading strategies, participating in group discussions, and creating a collaborative character web on the class OneNote page. These have assisted students in developing their own narratives as part of our creative writing unit focusing on identity.
Overall, 7B have had a strong and successful start to their school journey, demonstrating all the College values. It has been amazing to watch these young students rally around each other and step up without being asked. They are an amazing class, and we look forward to seeing what 7B are capable of this year. Keep up the great work!
Students were learning about the enormous size of the sun compared with the other planets in our Solar System, as well as the extreme distances between planets. To do this the students watched a clip simulating the collision between our home galaxy, The Milky Way and our neighbouring galaxy, Andromeda. Students were asked what is going to happen to Earth after this collision. To answer this question students had to create a relative scale for the size of the planets and then another scale creating a relative distance of the solar system, we paced this out on Butler Oval, it is 100 metres long between the Sun and the outer most planet Neptune (Pluto is not a bona fide planet!). With this information students then must make a decision; will Earth survive the collision of Galaxies?
Pastoral is a lesson in which students develop their current knowledge in becoming a well-rounded citizen and grow around our school values.
In one of the sessions we focussed on stress management! The students have identified some positive ways to address their stress by first establishing what stress is, how it happens, and how it affects their bodies. They then made a poster to display within class how we can manage stress.
This week 7B have completed their first design brief task, focusing on creating a pizza recipe. Students were introduced to the design brief process and guided through recipe development.
All students completed the design task, producing a range of really yummy pizza's, which were quickly consumed. Well done to 7B for completing their design brief task to such a high standard!
In Visual Art 7B have been learning about the elements of art. The following images are CAT's (Common Assessment Task), the students completed last week in response to learning about the element of line. They explored optical illusion created through line: specifically the works of Bridget Riley and Brett Whitely. They have now moved onto learning techniques to create illusion through tone. So far this class has shown an excellent capacity to learn and develop new skills and are reaping the benefits!
