In our Support Unit
Students encouraged and supported to reach their full potential
There is excitement in the Support Unit as we begin an All Girls group. We meet once a week on a Tuesday afternoon. The aim of the group is for all our female students to meet, mingle and get to know their fellow classmates and girls from other year groups in a friendly and fun atmosphere!
Our "let's get to know each other better" group is working well! Some of the activities we've organised to get to know each other include an introduction social skills, card games, musical chairs, line dancing and open conversation.
It is wonderful to see the girls getting to know each other - and having fun!

Teacher, Support Unit
The Support Unit students have been happy to be back in the kitchen this term and they have cooking up a storm with a variety of delicious dishes. Some recipes have been made with love at home and students recreated them at school, other students created new recipes, and then of course there’s always old favourite recipes.
Life’s ‘batter’ with pancakes right? So whats ‘batter’ than a plain pancake? A chocolate filled pancake! A creative take on the traditional pancake was created by Ruby Wiegold in Year 11 and came to life this term. Delicious.
Ayesha Ali created oodles of noodles with her Chicken Chow Mein dish and so many students mastered the chopsticks. Some students had never even held a pair of chopsticks before and now are expert chopsticks users.
Students (and teachers!) were introduced to traditional Indian Onion Pakora by Zaeem Rehman. These delicious morsels are traditionally cooked using chickpea flour and are often eaten in rainy weather.
A crowd favourite among the students in the Support Unit is pizza. Pizza will always have a piece of our heart especially now that students have expertly mastered a traditional Italian Margarita pizza.
Jam drops, hot dogs, French toast, popcorn, chocolate brownies and finally the icing on the cake was orange and poppyseed cupcakes chosen by Miriam Al-Zuhairi in Year 7.
Well done students! Looking forward to cooking more amazing dishes in Term 2.

The Year 7 Book Club has been expanded to include the support Unit. Students from our Support Unit were very excited to receive their brand-new reading and picture books recently from Mr Howard, our Head Teacher Literacy and Mrs Low from our School Library.
It is a rewarding sight to see our students lost in a good book. We hope that that this school initiative can be a small stepping stone towards students becoming lifelong readers.
