Technology and Applied Studies - Year 8

Promotional Design - The promotional design classes have completed an inquiry based project where students worked in groups to flip junk food. Students researched unhealthy foods and how to make them healthy, creating possible recipes to use during class. Students were able to make two recipes which they served to the class, final recipes were also presented to a panel of judges for the  ‘healthiest food’ competition.

Computer Control Technologies - Students have investigated the meaning of Artificial Intelligence and its presence in our daily life. They have then created code as instructions for an example of artificial intelligence to follow, creating shapes and patterns.

Sustainability - Students have investigated the meaning of sustainability and its importance in controlling climate change in the world. They have then created a garden plan that reflects the principles of Permaculture by designing a no dig garden.

Mr Kanck's class is focusing on mushroom growing as part of the sustainability unit. Students have been tending their fungi in recycled containers and learning about how mushrooms work and fit in with our environment. Students will produce some tasty dishes inspired by their own mushrooms towards the end of the term.

Metal Technologies - Students have investigated the use of metals and the types of metals. They have then created a Candle Holder, learning about safety and materials and then made their own interest project. These included Controller Holder, Key Rack, Dog Lead Holder and Picture Frame. The students have had great fun using the metal scroll former and putting their ideas together.
