Technology and Applied Studies

Technology and Applied Studies - Year 7

Digital Technologies - Classes have created some interesting and clever designs for their Laser Cutting task. This was particularly special to them, as many chose items to give to their Mothers and Grandmothers for Mothers' Day.

Students have learnt to translate unicode to binary and applied this to a project using two coloured beads to spell out their names. They are particularly proud of their ability to understand and decode binary and are wearing their creations.

Year 7 will then learn to code and program micro:bits and engage in small projects to explore the idea that codes can be written to control hardware.

In this unit students will learn about using micro:bits for data logging, temperature readings, using sensors and lighting up LED’s.

Agriculture and Food Technologies - Students have been learning about "Delicious Dairy" and how food and Agriculture relate to one another. They planted vegetables last term in the College Agriculture Farm ready for harvest and to cook with at the end of this term.

Students have been learning about sustainable gardening practices along with maintaining their vegetables patches throughout the term. This term has seen the development of food skills in the kitchen through cooking scones, spinach and ricotta rolls, buttermilk pancakes and making their own butter. Students will have the opportunity to test their cooking skills as they will cook a dish that represents the vegetable they have planted at the College farm at the end of this term.
