The Importance of Career Education

Every young person should be provided with the best possible opportunities to transition successfully from secondary school to their respective pathway, including further education or employment.

The Career Education framework, based on the Australian Blueprint of Career Development and the Victorian Careers Curriculum Framework, assists students to reflect on their ambitions, interests, strengths and abilities. It assists them to have a greater understanding about career options, pathways, the changing labour market, and navigate and relate these to what they know about themselves.

Every secondary student at Good News Lutheran College will, at some stage, undertake careers education during the year, either through their formal learning, through their co-curricular activities, or as part of the College’s career program relevant to their year level. This can include a combination of vocational testing, one on one career counselling, incursions/excursions and ongoing access to tools and resources for further research.

To assist with ongoing research, attached to this newsletter you will find the fortnightly Careers Newsletter (Careers Corner) where you are encouraged to explore career related information and events with your son/daughter.
