Head of Middle Years
Mr Steven Tkaczuk
Much has been occurring across our Middle Years over the past fortnight. Students are being engaged in an array of activities across subject areas and have begun delving deep into their inquiry of concepts. We look forward to sharing some of the learning with you all, very soon.
Our Middle Years presentation link for our community will soon be made available for you to view. It will address information about who we are, what we stand for, our academic program, as well as information relating to each year level. Please view this informative piece when you have the opportunity. It will be sent to all Middle Years families via Signmee.
To begin our journey in this valuable program, students along with their parents/guardians completed a very special activity which prepared them to ‘Depart’ on our year long journey together. Students were then ‘Çalled’ on by their teachers to share this journey with them – ready to delve into a variety of topics including self-identity, relationships, challenges faced and stepping forward into the world, as they move from young adolescence into young adulthood.
In Week 4 of this Term, students participated in an excursion to the Geelong Waterfront to complete various activities related to the word ‘Courage’. There they completed two significant steps in their journey. The first step was to identify ‘child-like’ behaviours which they would like to leave behind as they discover more about who they want to be and the second was to develop enough courage to jump from various heights into the water (for many this was indeed a ‘courage’ challenge, which they overcame and were extremely proud of). Students will now begin preparing themselves for the next stage of the journey which focuses on ‘Collaboration’ and ‘Commitment’.

Our Middle Years leadership group along with our College Captains/Vice Captains attended the Melbourne Youth Leadership Forum at the Melbourne Convention Centre in Week 5. Students were engrossed in various presentations led by young leaders/entrepreneurs who spoke of their successes and failures in leading various projects and organisations. Additionally, they learnt varying strategies to assist them in actioning ideas across the College. Overall, it was a very beneficial day for the students.
