St Patrick’s Day

We celebrated St Patrick's day yesterday wearing  a touch of green. We loved celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Prep. We read a story about a Leprechaun and made dancing shamrock men and 2-D shape rainbows. We also did some Irish Dancing as a busy break. Take a look -

The children attended the liturgy. We looked at the history of St Patrick through stories and the students are also excitedly designing and building leprechaun traps!

Literacy

We have very excitedly been exploring and using the MSL approach each day in our class.  The children have been working really hard doing their MSL sound packs each morning. (See Principal news). We are building on the knowledge and training Kate Stroud has undertaken, to implement this in our morning routine.

Maths

In Maths we are loving our warm up game ‘Race to 10’ using dice, counters and tens frames. We are learning to count and add numbers to 10. We began looking at 2D Shapes this week including squares, triangles, circles and rectangles. We were learning to describe shapes, talking about the number of sides and corners, making shapes using craft sticks and playdough and how we can sort different shapes. We made 2D shape rainbows for our Term 1 Math Project.

1/2 NEWS

R.E

We enjoyed dressing up in a touch of green for St Patrick's day yesterday.

The children attended the St Patrick’s Day liturgy. We looked at the history of St Patrick through stories and the students are also excitedly designing and building leprechaun traps!

Literacy

We have very excitedly been exploring and using the MSL approach each day in our classes.  We are building on the knowledge and training Kate Stroud has undertaken, to implement this in our morning routine. Currently, we are looking at the vowel sounds. Ask your child to show you how we are practicing this in class using hand movements.

The students are enjoying letter writing. Learning about the structure, format and purpose of a letter has enabled the students to have a go at writing to various people including Miss Rafferty in Ireland!

Maths

Shapes - We have been learning about 2D and 3D, properties of shapes, features, models of shapes in preparation to design and use this shape knowledge to make Leprechaun traps!

Our focus on number strategies this past week has been subitising and bridging through ten. Kids have explored this through games, concrete materials targeted focus groups with the teacher. See below for examples of these strategies

Respectful Relationships

Children were introduced to character strengths. We continue to unpack these through stories and role-play. Children worked in groups to plan and rehearse a chosen character strength and a time at school when they have shown this strength. See the image below for the character strengths we will continue to explore this year.
