Mrs Jaeger commenced at JPII at the beginning of the year as our Head of Library and Teacher Librarian.

We warmly welcome Mrs Jaeger to the team.

1. Name

Kathryn Jaeger

2.  Position

Head of Library / Teacher Librarian

2a. Favourite way to spend a day off/weekend.

My favourite way to spend a day off is walking our border collie on the beautiful Seven Mile Beach and reading.

3.  How long have you worked at JPII?  Where did you work previously?

I started at John Paul II this year and have been made to feel very welcome by the whole school community. Previously I have worked in Head of Library, Teacher Librarian and English/HASS teacher roles at K to 12 schools and colleges in Tasmania, and as Head of Library at Redlands College in Brisbane, a P to 12 school with around 1500 students.

4.  What drew you/inspired you to come to work at JPII?

I was impressed by the outstanding work John Paul II is doing with literacy and keen to support this. The exciting challenge of planning and resourcing a new library for a rapidly growing Christian school on the Eastern Shore inspired me to join the John Paul II team.

5.  What do you love about libraries and a library experience for students?

As a teacher librarian I value the opportunity to inspire, engage and ignite students’ passion for literature. I enjoy resourcing libraries and helping each student to find the right book or accurate online information. Libraries also provide vibrant spaces for students during breaks. I love teaching weekly library lessons with every class, nurturing a love of books and reading, and believe that that this is a crucial part of literacy development.

6. What do you hope our new library becomes for our students and school?

I hope our new library becomes the heart of the school, providing literature enrichment for the whole school community with exciting new resources and welcoming spaces encouraging students to immerse themselves in the world of books.

7.  What is your unique experience/skill that you bring to the JPII team?

Having worked in a range of schools in different states, my extensive experience allows me to bring the best of each of these to our new library. I’m also excited to have the opportunity to share my wide knowledge of literature with students in weekly library lessons.

8.  Any last word before the school bell goes............?

We look forward to welcoming students, staff and parents to a new chapter in the history of John Paul II when our new library opens.
