Secondary 7/8

7/8 A

Secondary7/8A have had a fantastic Term 1 as we made new friends and joined in a wide range of learning activities. At school, we have explored letter sounds through many hands-on games and extended our counting skills to model and order larger numbers.

In addition, we learned about various ways to describe our wonderful landscapes and landmarks at Victoria. Our Experience Day trips to the city and beach allowed us to build up our independence and understand what makes Victoria unique. It was massive to go on city walks and the boat trip in the first term but students all followed the instructions, being safe, respectful, responsible and actively learning about different things.

Last but not least, we loved our weekly Challenge program and the amazing Sports Day! Can’t wait for the camp and spectacular practice next term!

78B

Secondary 7/8B have had a wonderful start to the 2022 school year, creating new friendships and continuing to grow old ones. Students have settled into their school routine and have enjoyed spending time with a range of students and teachers. 7/8B have particularly enjoyed their weekly PreCal Experience Day activities, where they have explored a range of Victorian landmarks such as the MCG, Federation Square, Hosier Lane and Flinder Street Station. Students have developed an understanding of landscapes by exploring different environments such as the Yarra river and Williamstown beach. We are looking forward to many more fun and engaging adventures in Term 2.

78C

Secondary 7/8C have had a great start to the year with many new friendships being formed and old friendships strengthened. We have particularly enjoyed our weekly PreCAL Experience Day outings where we explore Victorian landmarks and landscapes for our Discovery Unit while improving our confidence, communication skills and safety awareness. We started small with local outings to Andrew Place, Binnak Park, Watsonia Shops and Rosanna Parklands and then when confident started to venture out to Fed Square, the Yarra River and Williamstown beach. We are looking forward to many more fun adventures next term.

7/8D

Students of 78D have settled in the classroom amicably well in Term 1. We are a calm, and quiet little group with lots of colourful personalities lying within each of our students. While many have enjoyed continuing their years of ongoing friendship, others have been very excited to build new friendship. Our classroom is a safe and happy learning space for many of our students. Natalie and I are very proud to see the increase in confidence and responsibility amongst our students.

We have continued to strive to be safe, respectful, and be a responsible learner over the term. In addition to that, there has been an amplitude learning opportunities throughout term 1 for all our students who are working at their own individual unique level. We particularly enjoyed the excursion to Cooper’s Settlement and the tour to our Discovery Centre exploring the past. Last but not least, we are also active participants of the weekly Challenge Program.

7/8E

7/8E has had an engaging and educational Term 1. We began by getting to know each other through team-building games and activities; learning how to get along, support and cooperate with our classmates. Our favourite activity was building the tallest tower using spaghetti and marshmallows. One team had more success than the other!

We enjoyed our two out of school activities that integrated all of our learning: Reading, Writing, Maths and Discovery Unit. We were amazed to find that numbers are all around us when we went on our ‘Number Walk’ to Andrew Place. A fish and chip lunch was our reward for working hard. We created an awesome timeline display of important Australian commemorations in our classroom and are looking forward to investigating our cultural heritage and celebrations next term.

We visited the Discovery Centre where we dressed up in costumes and learned about some historical Australian events. The whole section excursion to Coopers Settlement was exciting because we participated in fun activities and got to be with our friends from other classes.

Term 2 is going to be ‘Spectacular’!

7/8F

What a term it has been! The students have put in a fantastic effort and continue to support each other in their learning really well.

We have completed solid learning across curriculum areas. We particularly enjoyed our descriptive writing within Literacy and choosing an area to describe from our local surroundings, including magpies, gum trees, and ants.  The students developed excellent mathematical knowledge of place value and figuring out real-life problems.

We have enjoyed our excursion to Coopers Settlement and getting to know other students from different classes through our Challenge activities.

A few comments from the students:

"I liked learning about the Eucalyptus trees and how oil is made from it ('Andilee)

I really enjoyed Food Tech, especially making the creamy pasta (Matthew)

I like learning about Maths, especially place value (Alicia)

On another note, here are a few photos from 7//8F

7/8G

The G in 78G stands for their being GREATNESS among us. Secondary 7/8G students are great students who radiate positive energy. Our room is also as bright and cheerful as our personalities. I asked the students to describe our class in a few words, and the most common answers were entertaining, energetic and extraordinary.

We kicked off the year by getting to know each other through team building games and activities. Some highlights include creating time capsules to open at the end of the year, a scavenger hunt that involved working together to solve riddles, minute to win it challenges, and a STEM catapult challenge.

The term has been filled with a lot of learning and a healthy dose of laughter. I have seen extraordinary growth in the students, and I am incredibly proud of their achievements. Their dedication and determination can be seen through the high quality of their work. It has also been rewarding to see students' opportunities to widen their knowledge, skills, and aspirations, both here in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. Some standouts include creating a descriptive text based on an object from the MILE room related to Australian history, our excursion to Coopers Settlement and athletics day.

7/8 H

We have had a busy Term 1 in 7/8H kicking off the year with some problem solving experiments. One of the most successful was when we made paper helicopters and dropped them from a height to see how long they would take to fall.

We had a successful excursion to Cooper’s Settlement, exploring Australia’s past. We particularly enjoyed learning about Emus and Kangaroos on the safari.

In Writing we have been creating descriptive texts about objects around us and made up monsters, while in Maths we have been focussing on the language of addition and subtraction and how to problem solve.

Next Term we'll be learning about effective communication in Social Competencies and looking forward to the Year 7 and 8 Camps.

We are sad to say goodbye to Oliver who is moving to Queensland. We will miss his helpful manner and his infectious laugh. We wish him all the best at his new school.
