Team Leader's Message

You’ll never be bored when you try something new, there really is no limit to what you can do! (Dr.Suess)

It’s hard to believe that we have almost completed the first full term of face to face learning in two years!

Term 1 started with a focus on building a positive climate for learning. Activities were designed to support students to make connections with peers and staff members through collaborative projects. Learning opportunities focused on identifying and building on students personal strengths, fostering teamwork and creative problem solving. The most popular challenges were designing and constructing marshmallow and spaghetti towers, and completing minute to win it challenges.

Our unit of Inquiry this term has centered around the key question ‘How and why do we commemorate history?’ To launch the inquiry students went on an excursion to Coopers Settlement where they learnt about the traditional custodians of the land, the Wurrundjeri people and what the landscape looked like before European Settlement. This sparked interest in Australia as a nation and some of the controversy around its history.

The students have enjoyed investigating commemorations that occur in Australia and why these events are significant. The Discovery Centre provided many opportunities for classes to immerse themselves in Australia’s rich history by exploring displays and artefacts from different time periods. These experiences were used as a foundation for writing descriptions of emblems and places that are significant to Australian history,  and to create a timeline of Australian commemorations.

Secondary 7/8 SRC members were busy this term working together with our Wellbeing and Engagement Leader, Jess to raise awareness of the National Day of Action against Violence and Bullying. To acknowledge the day students and staff wore a splash of orange and created a kindness tree.  Ideas of how kindness can be shown were recorded on leaves and added to a section display.  Random acts of kindness were abundant throughout the day with students and staff looking for opportunities to shower people with kindness.

On Tuesday the 29th of March the Secondary School Athletics Carnival was held at Meadowglen International Athletics Stadium. Students cheered on their classmates and teachers and showed great sportsmanship as they competed in a variety of events. There were many impressive displays of athleticism throughout the day including multiple record breaking jumps of over 3 metres in the long jump pit and explosive performances on track with 7/8 represented in the whole school finals for the 100 metre sprint.

We would like to thank Hayley and the Specialist Team for organising a wonderful event.

Congratulations to all Secondary 7/8 students who have shown resilience and adaptability as we navigated Term One.

Occupational Therapist

The Secondary 7/8 students have had a great start to 2022. We have built new friendships through class games and activities and continued to develop fine motor skills/sensory preferences through making class sensory items.

Speech Therapist

This term it has been a highlight to see the students in 7/8A, B & C connect with each other during Community Experience Days. From bonding at Williamstown Beach to sharing cookies in the food court of Greensborough Plaza, it has been a delight to see the relationships that are being built.
