What will I learn?

The foundation courses are level 2 courses that run for 150 hours and are a prelude to undertaking study at the pre-tertiary level 3 standard.

Ā

If there is sufficient interest, the possibility for students to undertake study in a Foundation program in French, Japanese or German could be available. However, it is most probable that students wishing to complete a Foundation Language program would work in a combined class with the pre-tertiary students studying the 315114 program. Therefore, students interested in the Foundation course/s would need to be positive, self-directed learners who are able to work at an accelerated pace.

Ā

If students are interested in this possibility, they need to first speak with the Head of Languages.

Ā

Why should I consider this course?

The study of a language contributes to the overall education of learners, particularly in the areas of communication, cross-cultural understanding and general knowledge. It provides access to the target culture. The study promotes understanding of different attitudes and values within the wider Australian community and beyond.

Ā

The ability to communicate in the target language may, in conjunction with other skills acquired in the study of this course, provide learners with enhanced vocational opportunities, and the ability to apply the language to work, further study, training or leisure situations.

Ā

This Foundation course is suitable for beginners with no experience of learning the target language as well as learners who have had some prior exposure to the target language and who wish to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of the target language and culture.

Ā

What Skills does this course provide?

On successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • use the target language to communicate with others by listening and responding to basic spoken language
  • use the target language to communicate with others by communicating in basic spoken language
