What will I learn?

This course is designed for students who have successfully completed the High School Year 10 Chinese course. It aims to enable students to use Chinese to communicate with others, to understand and appreciate cultural contexts in which Chinese is used and to apply Chinese to work, further study, training or leisure.

Ā

Through the study of three major themes ā€“ the individual, Chinese-speaking communities and the connections between those communities and aspects of the changing world ā€“ students develop skills in listening, speaking, writing and reading contemporary Chinese and an understanding of Chinese culture. Students may have the opportunity to travel to our sister school in China during a school break for a two to three-week exchange.Ā This will depend on the school's policy regarding international travel.

Ā

Students are required to maintain a portfolio of research and language-based activities to demonstrate the development of their language skills and competencies.Ā

Ā

Students who come from a Chinese speaking background are required to confirm eligibility for this course prior to making their subject choices.Ā

Ā
