Our wonderful Prep students have been exploring how Media can be used to capture and represent our emotions.
We have viewed T.V. shows, music and books that have explored the different emotions we experience as humans. Students have made connections to the emotions depicted in media and their own personal experiences.
As knowledgeable students, they have learned about photo booth set-ups, backdrops, ring lights, timers and framing a shot. With this information, they have taken selfies of themselves representing these feelings.
Year One
In Year One, students have been exploring how media can be used to enhance a narrative. Starting with Diary of a Wombat, students have been recording sound effects to match the story. The Year Ones were creative, using objects around the classroom and working collaboratively to create sounds such as rain, eating carrots, scratching, etc. As we continue to develop our skills, we will incorporate read alouds into our recordings.
Year Two and Three
Year Two and Three students have been developing their knowledge of basic shot types for filming and photography.
Taking their devices into the school yard, students have utilised long, medium and close-up shots to show their subjects in different settings.
In Week Nine, students analysed the form of high and low-angle shots. We explored how these shot types can change the way we perceive the subjects. High-angle shots can make a subject appear weak or at a disadvantage. Low-angle shots give a sense of power or authority.
Students replicated these shot types on their devices, with a focus on representing these power dynamics.
Year Four
In Week Nine, Year Four students began storyboarding and planning shot-lists for short films that will depict a day in the life of a Saltwater student.
Students brainstormed the important aspects of the school day, arranged them sequentially, and decided upon which would be most reflective of their day.
Consideration was also given to locations for these shots and how to communicate with an audience visually and without using dialogue.
