Year Six News

Dear Year 6 Families,
Wow, what a busy term we have had. We have made it through the first 11 weeks of the year to the end of Term One! The Year Six teachers couldn't be prouder of everyone's attitude, resilience and enthusiasm towards their learning.
Unit of Inquiry One
This week students have been wrapping up our first Unit of Inquiry, 'Who We Are'. They have been investigating into different perspective and positive and negative relationships within certain scenarios. Students have thought critically when thinking about people's different perspectives and possible reasons behind their actions.
Reading Reflection from Allegra Whitmore
In Reading, students have been working in their assigned reading group to familiarise themselves with the comprehension strategies and have begun literacy discussions. I have enjoyed completing our inferring tasks and being able to collaborate with my peers.
Writing Reflection from Max Davies
In Term One, we have been learning about, planning, drafting, and publishing poetry. We have also been studying different poetic and literary devices to use in our writing pieces.
Our poetry has been strongly connected to our current unit of inquiry, “Who we are”, and about emotions that we and the people around us might experience.
Not only that, but we have also been learning about what a healthy relationship is, and we have incorporated that lesson in to our poetry writing.
Maths Reflection from Amitoj Singh
In Maths Groups, we have been learning about Number and Place Value. I really enjoy participating in maths groups because I am learning new skills to improve in areas that are relevant to me. We get to use school box to watching maths videos, complete tasks and submit our work. I also really like maths groups because I am able to see students from other classes.
Unit of Inquiry Two
In Week 10, the Year 6 students started their second Unit of Inquiry, 'How The World Works.' Under the Central Idea of "Understanding how scientific principles contribute to a changing world," students began investigating the different states of matter by making their own oobleck.
Kind Regards,
The Year Six Team
