It is so hard to believe that we are fast approach the end of a Term One, which is becoming very apparent with the increase of fervour and activity within the Music Classroom.
Years Four, Five and Six Music
Over the past fortnight, our students have been exploring Triads — a group of three notes played simultaneously - and learning how to play them on the keyboards.
Our Central Idea for this term has been “Music is another form of language” and using triads allows us to construct the musical equivalent of “words” as we pull together the notes, pitch and rhythm. As our students became more adept with finding and playing the triads on the keyboards, we were able to start creating different combinations of the triads to construct songs.
It was so satisfying to see students who have never played an instrument before, find themselves in a position where they were able to recognise notes on a musical staff, find the corresponding notes on a keyboard, and communicate their “new found language” through song.
We've also been treated by a few courageous students who were wanting to share their talents to their classmates via an impromptu concert. Here's Oliver (Year Four)´ performing his rendition of the theme from "The Mandalorian".
Extra Curricular Music
Aladdin: Our date has been set for this year’s musical, Aladdin Jr. We will be performing on 22 and 23 July at the Wyndham Cultural Centre. Look out for booking details early in Term 2.
With only four months to go to our big performance, a lot more emphasis is being placed on the rehearsals and preparation for this event. We are now rehearsing every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 8:30 to 9:30, and the progress from all of the students has got us all very excited.
This is going to be a very memorable event that you wont want to miss.
Victorian State School Spectacular: The repertoire list for the Victorian State School Spectular for the Mass Choir has just been released. Our aim is to start learning these songs in Term Two whilst we focus on the music of Aladdin Jr for the remainder of Term One.
School Choirs: Both of our choirs have been working hard on “I Am Australian” and each student is keen to perform at one of the upcoming assemblies to share the progress that they have achieved. Here's a little recording of the students in one of their rehearsals:
