Mandarin- Mr Yang

大家好! da jia hao!  Hello Everyone!

Term 1 Mandarin Learning

We are continuing our journey in learning Mandarin in different classes in Term 1. The students at the foundation level are learning the basic greetings and how to introduce themselves in Chinese. We are practising how to write the Chinese characters as they are different from English.

Year 1 and year 2 students are reviewing their knowledge of vocabulary about colors and numbers. We are using different games and activities to engage Chinese text by reading and speaking.

After learning about the traditions around Chinese New Year celebrations, students from the Middle level are moving on to learn about the delicious Chinese food in our new unit. Year 5 and 6 students are also deepening their understanding of the Chinese language as we are investigating different country names and how to describe the people and language from different parts of the world.

Mandarin Leader Team

In 2022, we are excited to have Christiana Argitis, Tom Phan, and Kenny Huynh as our School Mandarin Captains. The following students from year 3-5 have also been selected as our Chinese leader team. They are:

James N, Lucy B, Destinho B, Austin G, Patrick V, Christian G, Maisonya N, Lucinda O’B, and Yagmur O.

We hold meetings every Friday at recess to brainstorm ideas to improve our Chinese learning at Trinity. Each week, we reflect and give feedback on the strategies we tried in the past week and discuss potential opportunities to expand our language use in the school. As part of the improvement plan, the Chinese leaders are now taking turns to stand at the gate in the morning and greet all students and parents with “Good Morning” in Chinese (which is “zao shang hao”).

We welcome all the children, parents, and carers in our community to join our morning greetings. ;)

谢谢(xie xie)

Mr. Yang
