Principals' Update

District Swimming

On Wednesday our intrepid swimmers competed against other students in our district for the chance to move forward to the upcoming regional swimming competition. Once again our students swam with courage and determination and made us proud with their sporting behaviour on the day of the event.

Congratulations to the following students who are competing at Regionals:

Mollie McL, Frankie A, Louis A, Hugh M, Victor W, Violet E, Mia T

School Council Election

A reminder to members of the school parent community that nominations for School Council for 2022 close Friday 24th February at 4pm. I encourage all members of the parent community to consider nominating. Nomination forms are available on compass or by hard copy at the office.

COVID restrictions

We are still awaiting an updated Operations Guide to clarify recent changes to COVID Safe measures. We have been informed though that surveillance testing with Rapid Antigen Tests will continue for the remainder of the term and we thank the community for their support of this. We also know that Years 3 to 6 children will remain mandated to wear masks while in class and when unable to physically distance. I am asking all community members to continue to support these students, and especially those who are immunocompromised or who have family who are immunocompromised, by wearing a mask when you are in the yard in close contact with others. I thank you for your continued support in making our school as safe as possible during this time.

School Council Report

Hello! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Sarah Bekessy, mother of Quinn (Year 5) and current President of School Council. We had our final meeting of the current council last night and I thought you might be interested in reading a short summary.

  • We welcomed Keith McNeill as Acting Principal and farewelled a couple of members who are choosing not to stand again this year (Gaby Shortis and Alice Knowles). Anastasia Mase will also not return as her son has moved on to high school. Thanks so much to all departing Councillors for everything you’ve contributed.
  • We also farewelled Erin Brown who is taking maternity leave from Friday – best of luck Erin!!
  • We approved finance reports, and a digital learning policy, which will be reviewed again in May. A link to this policy will be sent out once it is on the website.
  • We approved fundraising activities and some key dates for 2022 (see info below)
  • We discussed the School Review and some key dates for parents and community to get involved (see below). The review is a process that our school is required to do this year to set its priorities for the next four years.
  • We discussed re-invigorating the communications part of the Fundraising subcommittee
  • We talked about the basketball court and we have a turf company coming out to quote for the repair works next Wednesday. Other companies are currently being contacted.
  • We discussed the success of the swimming carnival and  were impressed that it felt much safer with crossing supervisors, shade, and sunscreen
  • We touched on the progress reports provided to students (mid-year and end of year). This will be discussed further at council and subcommittee meetings.

Just to remind you, anyone is welcome to come along to School Council committee meetings (dates below) – It’s a great opportunity to hear a bit more detail about what’s happening at the school and to contribute ideas.

Feel free to get in touch with anyone on School Council, including myself if you have any thoughts or concerns. My email is sarah.bekessy@rmit.edu.au or Conrad cdb@mm.st
