NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week 2019 was celebrated in the last week of Term 2 in a number of different ways. All students participated in lessons throughout the week focused on this year’s NAIDOC week theme “Voice Treaty Truth”.

Primary ATSI students were lucky enough to be provided with an opportunity to travel to Peter Pan Preschool, Poppins Playhouse, St Mark’s Preschool and McCarthy Catholic College to perform their cultural performances. The students loved this opportunity as well as sharing their culture with our community.

On Friday 5th July, St Edward’s Primary School celebrated our whole school NAIDOC Week Liturgy in our Primary Hall. Students from the Infants and Primary gathered to pay their respects and be exposed to the Aboriginal culture through dance, song and music.

Our Liturgy celebration commenced with Indyannah Craigie proudly saying the Acknowledgement of Country in Gamilaraay language and our Year 1 and 2 students sang the Aboriginal Our Father. ATSI students from Primary and Infants created a prayer focus area whilst the children sang. We were lucky enough to have a number of special guests attend our Liturgy.

Thank you to Mrs Cate Taylor from Catholic Schools Office, Daryl Martin and the staff and students of St Joseph’s Quirindi and Holly Taggart from The Opportunity Hub for attending our special day. Lily Androutsos and Delika Boney represented their culture, families and school so proudly with their speech, developed specifically for the NAIDOC week theme “Voice Treaty Truth” - amazing girls!

We were dazzled with a cultural performance from Year 3 which was also accompanied by a didgeridoo group. The Kindergarten children impressed us with their singing and counting in Gamilaraay, “Banai Little Turtles”. To end our celebrations the Year 4, 5 & 6 students presented a traditional dance with contemporary elements.

I could not be prouder of the way all students, Indigenous and non-Indigenous students conducted themselves throughout the week. All students displayed respect and a willingness to learn more about our amazing culture!

Thank you to our supportive parent group who helped plan and organise our NAIDOC week celebrations, we thoroughly appreciate your support and involvement within the school.

A big thank you to Mrs Lisa Smith and Miss Brittany Cloake for all their hard work, dedication and preparation leading up to NAIDOC week; St Edward’s is so lucky to have you as a part of our St Edward’s community.

Thank you, Heidi Hardaker

We are pleased to announce that St Edward's collected a total of 47,909 points to spend on new learning resources for our Primary and Infants Campus. The resources should arrive in Term 4, 2019. A big thank you to the students and parents who collected their stickers and have contributed immensely to these new resources for our school. A HUGE shout out to Mrs Bec Evans who not only collected all our stickers, but also organised and counted them in her own time! YOU ARE AMAZING - thank you.
