Dylan's Cricketing Success
Wee Waa High School has watched with pride the accelerated development of Year 10 student and talented local cricketer, Dylan Smith.
Although he has only been involved in the NSW cricket development squad for the last two seasons, Dylan has experienced a rapid rise inline with skill development and as a result of the recognition he has received from selectors.
Coach Kel Walls who has been a key part of Dylan’s growth these last two years commented that ‘Dylan is a good listener and readily takes on board suggestions from his coaches’.
‘At just 14 he came on board having been selected in the Northern Inland Under 16s team and this year he was selected in both the Northern Inland and Central Northern Bradman Cup teams after impressive performances at the selection carnival in Tamworth’.
‘It was at the Bradman Cup, a state tournament for the eight country zones that Dylan’s speed, accuracy and height drew the attention of state selectors. His consistent performances throughout the carnival resulted in his selection in the Under 16 State Challenge’.
Kel explained ‘This is where those players judged as being the best 24 country and 24 best city players are brought together for a training carnival in Sydney over four days. Dylan was among three Central Northern players selected for this event'.
It was Dylan’s standout performance in the Bradman Cup that earned him the Coach’s Award announced at the end of season dinner that was held in Tamworth last weekend.
Wee Waa High School Principal, Ms Annabel Doust, said ‘Dylan is a credit to himself and his family. His success has been the result of terrific family support and the great mentoring and coaching of Kel Walls. We wish him continued success'.
