Premier's Reading Challenge
With the cooler weather, it’s more appealing than ever to find a warm spot and read a good book, and there are so many books to choose from in this year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) book list.
Avid reader and Wee Waa High School Librarian, Ms Sally Cuddigan is encouraging years 7, 8 and 9 students to take up the challenge and register by the 31st July.
Ms Cuddigan explained, ‘The target is to read 20 books, of any size, by 30th August. 15 must be from the PRC booklist and 5 can be of your own choosing. Students can use their own Kindles or iPads to read, or select books in the library that are marked with a purple sticker.’
The Challenge’s aim is to encourage a love of reading for leisure and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge for each student individually to read more frequently and more widely.
‘Apart from being enjoyable, studies show that reading for pleasure makes a big difference to children's educational performance, expanding their vocabulary and spelling ability among other things. There are so many great reasons to read and I’m looking forward to seeing lots of our students pick up a book, join the challenge and get reading’, added Ms Cuddigan.
