Alex Turner Year 7

Alex Turner - Junior Cricket Superstar

Brighton Secondary College are very proud of the exceptional sporting achievements of Alex Turner in Year 7. Alex is an incredible cricket player, and over the last school holidays, Alex attended an 8-day offsite camp competing for U13 Victoria in the National Indoor Cricket Junior Championships.

A few other cricket-related achievements for Alex this year:

  • Represented Victoria in the U13 Team in the National Indoor Cricket Junior Championships – hosted in Cranbourne, Victoria from 7-13 July. Alex was the youngest player in the team. Vic U13 finished top of the ladder but unfortunately lost the semi & prelim finals and didn’t make it to the Grand Final (photos below);
  • Captained Mitchell Shield Under 12 for South East Cricket Association (SECA) Rep side to undefeated tournament victory on 20 Jan (photo below with Keith Mitchell himself and the shield);
  • cored 540 runs in the 2018/19 season at an average of 77 and Awarded 2018/19 Brighton Union CC Junior Club Champion.

OES Snow Camp

This camp was a 5 day, 4 night camp and occured over the first week of term 3. The trip is a compulsory part of the OES subject, with experiences on the trip relating directly to the outcomes within the study design. Contemporary relationships with outdoors environments / healthy & sustainable outdoor environments are the key topics to be covered. The camp was run by Rubicon Outdoor School (Nayook) and BSC staff. The camp involved students camping in tents at a range of sites both at the Rubicon school campus and external locations. All activities took place in the Mt Baw Baw area and within the grounds on the Rubicon Outdoor School. Student got to experience snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, exploring an alpine environment, information sessions run from staff within the Mt Baw Baw resort and a community project at Rubicon Outdoor School.
