Richard Minack and Pat Gargano with Alum Jennifer Simpson

BSC Alum Jennifer Simpson (née: Lark)

We were extremely fortunate to be contacted by Jennifer Simpson, one of the first students to ever attend Brighton Secondary College (Brighton High School) in 1955. Principal Richard Minack and Assistant Principal Pat Gargano met up with Jennifer over morning tea late last term. Jennifer reflected on her time at Brighton High School. She mentioned that she co-authored the very first Voyager Magazine and generously donated a pristine condition copy.

Peta Searle, a past teacher between 1997-2006 and part time between then and now, has paved the way for women in AFL. At BSC Peta taught PE and Health, and her contributions to the college include Year 7 Student Manager, Junior School Manager and Head of Sport.

Excerpt from the St Kilda FC article:

Searle, a trailblazer for women's footy was appointed by St Kilda in 2014 as the first full-time female assistant coach in the men's competition.

Prior to the appointment, she became the first female assistant coach in the VFL with Port Melbourne in 2012 after leading Darebin to multiple premierships in the VWFL.

CEO Matt Finnis said it was great recognition of years of dedication to our sport.

“We’re really lucky to have Peta Searle at our football club and we are very proud of this achievement,” Finnis said.

Congratulations Peta, and we wish you all the success in the AFLW with the first St Kilda women's side next year.
