Velocity Transformations

Growing stronger...

Velocity Transformations (VT) is a residential rehabilitation program for men and women from the age of 18 years old.  The program assists people who suffer from drug and alcohol dependency, depression, eating disorders and other life altering conditions.

A number of important developments have occurred in recent months with our beloved VT program.

1) It's a new bus!   Like Launch Youth, our friends from Prescare and Bargain Car Rentals have helped provide us with a new bus needed to support our men's program which will increase in numbers, and the launch of our new women's program for later in 2019.

2) New men's house is almost complete!  The opening of our women's program later in 2019 necessitates a new home for the men, whose numbers will increase from the current 11 up to a possible 16 including graduates. [The women will take up residence in the current men's house after a refurbishment as well].  After many months of council related delays, the house is nearing completion thanks to a large refurbishment (partly funded by a grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund) to cope with increased numbers and group therapy needs of a residential therapeutic community. The men are really keen to get into their new digs!

3)  We love graduations!   In March two more of our men graduated from the program (which takes a minimum of 12 months to complete, but more often is an 18 months + journey).  This graduation we rejoiced with John & Justin, who had family in attendance during a joyous yet emotional graduation service held Sunday, March 24 at Velocity Church, one of the key stakeholders in the VT program.   "These graduations just keep getting increasingly sweeter and more touching each time," commented Pathways CEO, Aldo Antolli.

4) Modernised program  The biggest overhaul of the program in 20 years of Transformations' history is happening now, and Tasmania's Velocity Transformations centre is leading the way.  An independent review of our program that we participated in last year praised our highly motivated staff and clients whilst also recommending new evidence-based practices and innovations that the Transformations Board has enthusiastically adopted, with the phased roll-out being piloted at our centre in Tasmania right now:  with innovations on how we assess the drug and alcohol history of clients, how we individualise their treatment pathway, along with innovative neuroplastic techniques to improve memory and cognitive function of our clients. This, coupled with modernised ways of governing our therapeutic community and running our therapy groups, is leading to increased efficacy of an already very special treatment program.  Both staff and clients have commented positively about the changes, with even praise from Tasmanian Department of Health officials expert in this space. In upcoming issues of Stepping Stones we will share more in detail and bring you into "the life of a program participant." We honour and thank Michael Ferguson MP, Tasmanian Minister for Health for his invaluable support during this past season.
