Kyle Perry
Launch Youth Support Worker
Velocity Transformations Case Worker
I’m Kyle and I’m 27. This year I moved here from a small country town called Ridgley on the NW coast. I had two home churches up north: a small Brethren chapel where I grew up and where my Dad is an Elder, and Gateway Church Devonport, where I was part of the leadership team in our Discipleship stream. My parents are foster carers, with my Dad also being a massage therapist and my Mum a stay-at-home-Mum-and-Nan.
I hold a Bachelor of Counselling (Coaching), and am part-way through a post-grad diploma in Psychology. I’m an accredited counsellor and life coach, and before moving to Hobart I worked for the Tasmanian Department of Education as a youth worker, counsellor, and drug & alcohol worker; before that I was a group therapy facilitator and case manager at the Salvation Army Bridge Program. I’m a graduate from Capernwray Bible School in NSW, and of Harvest School in Mozambique, which is Heidi Baker’s school for missionaries, and have been involved in preaching, worship leading, and church leadership roles since I was 16. I play a few instruments, I like the gym and the ocean, and am a soon-to-be published novelist: a fiction manuscript I wrote is currently under management with a literary agency in Sydney.
I came to be here at Pathways through a series of God-incidences, but it all began through my involvement and close friendship with the team at Kingsholme (KH). Earlier this year I felt called to Hobart, and the team at KH suggested I send my resume to Aldo. The very next day I happened to line up behind Aldo at the C3 Hobart cafe, and the conversation began.
I am currently working across both Launch and Velocity Transformations. At Launch I have joined the team of Youth Support Workers, who provide in-house supervision and support to residents. In this role, I’m able to use my background in counselling and youth work to build rapport with the residents, be an advocate for them and create space for therapeutic conversations which fits in with the Launch culture of self-worth and empowerment.
At Transformations I have joined the team as a Case Worker. This role has involved meeting one-on-one with residents to discuss their journey and recovery, work collaboratively to build an Individual Treatment Plan, and to take every opportunity to empower them towards facilitating growth in their own personal goals, recovery goals and their relationships.
