Maths Resources & Update

Maths in Year 6

This term we have started with a continued focus on Number Fluency. Number fluency practise helps us to build on our strategy choice when solving problems. Below is an example of the Number Fluency problems we have been working on.

We have also been looking at rotational symmetry and Tessellation. Using Maths 300 we investigated the SPHINX SHAPE. We learnt that the SPHINX SHAPE is made up of 6 equilateral triangles. We looked at how many SPHINX SHAPES we would need each time to enlarge the shape and concluded the following:

SIZENUMBER OF SPHINX
11
24
416
864

Matharoo Worksheets

Our school subscribes to Matharoo (previously known as EdShop Maths) and receives weekly worded Maths based problems based on current topics shared in the media. Not only do students learn about current events, they also build on their problem-solving skills. There are four levels of difficulty (lower, middle, upper and extension) and the questions cover all areas of the Maths curriculum. Here are some for you to work on with your child at home (PDFs for each level attached below).
