Prep & Year 1 News

Prep Fire Education

This week the Prep students were given a tour of a Fire Truck and learnt all about the equipment - they even got to squirt the big hose!

Last week they had a visit from some local Firefighters where they learnt about smoke detectors and what to do if there is a fire at home. They even heard what the firefighters sound like when they are wearing their breathing gear. The Preps loved having a go at crawling and getting down low to go, go, go!

Prep Aquarium Excursion (14 October)

On Monday 14 October the Prep children had a wonderful time at the Melbourne Aquarium.

Year 1 Pizza Making

As part of our Unit of Inquiry 'Food goes through many stages of production before reaching us', the Year One children made pizzas. We made the dough, allowed it to rise and added the toppings. It covered many areas of the curriculum such as writing a procedural text and the maths topic of fractions as we cut the pizzas into halves and quarters. Below are some recounts from the students.

Yesterday we made pizza. It was the best pizza ever!! First we made the dough. Then we made the base. Then we left it for 30 minutes to rise. Then we put the food on it and we put it in the oven. We put cheese and tomato paste on top. Jack L (1A)

On a bright sunny morning I was about to make PIZZA! How exciting is that. But first we all needed to know how to make the pizza. All of us were making the pizza dough. Of course the teachers showed us how to make the pizza. We all watched 1A make their pizza first. Everyone looking at 1A thought it looked very fun. Now it was our go to make pizza. We made the dough as well as putting on the pizza sauce and cheese. Everyone enjoyed making pizza. Chloe V (1B)

On Thursday all the Year Ones made pizza. We all got a turn at putting something in the dough. We had to bring a rolling pin. We got split into groups to roll the pizza dough out. My group was Charlie D. We had fun! Annabel H (1C)

On Thursday the Year 1's made pizzas. It was so good. When we made the dough it felt sticky. They all came out so finely. In groups of 4 everyone got a quarter. It tasted so good I wanted another one. Ellen L (1D)
