Writing at CSPS

VCOP and Big Write is designed to bring the fun back into writing, to make students want to write and to be continuously challenged throughout the writing journey. Through games, activities, writing tasks, conversations and discussions students will learn not only where their abilities lie in a fun and engaging way, but also the steps they need to take, in order to continue to improve.

Big Write and VCOP is based on the premise that ‘if they can’t say it, they can’t write it.' Activities are planned to allow children to become articulate thinkers and speakers, who will then become articulate writers.  Underpinning the progress the students will achieve is the 'back to basics' approach of teaching the building blocks of writing through the use of the GHaSP method.

After each Big Write the students evaluate their own writing using a Student Friendly Criterion Scale. This allows them to analyse where their skill set lies, and specifically what steps they need to take in order to move forward. Working with their teacher and peers, students then set their own writing goals from this evaluation.

Next week students in Year 1 to Year 6 will participate in the Big Write.

The students will be writing a narrative. "The Magic Book"

All students need to talk about their ideas and opinions about this topic with as many family members as possible. A great time to do this is while you are all sitting at the table for dinner. It is suggested that the TV is not on so that you can all concentrate?

Students would love to hear your opinions and ideas as well to help them with their ideas. Please remember to use the ‘because’ word and remind them to do the same. That way when they write next week  they will have so many ideas and will be able to use a connective like ‘because’ to make their ideas really valuable.

Can you give them some up-levelled V.C.O.Pfor their writing?

V= Vocabulary -  wow words, ambitious vocabulary

C= Connective - words that join ideas together

O= Openers - amazing ways to start a sentence. Words that end in ‘ly’ or ‘ing’ are power openers

P= Punctuation - Ask about Kung Fu Punctuation (hand signals) to demonstrate.

I look forward to hearing some ideas about "The Magic Book."

Meet and Greet - Foundation 2020

Fun, Face painting and Farm Animals

We were blessed with perfect weather when the Foundation families came together to enjoy an array of activities at our Meet and Greet. The face painting and the farm animals (courtesy of Rain, Hayne and Shine) were clear favourites with the children, including the Year 6 students who helped to set up and run activities.

We saw some fantastic boat building with Miss Natalia and the STEAM leaders whilst Mrs Clements assisted students to produce hand painting pictures. Meanwhile, the basketball court set the scene for some Physical Vibe activities with Mrs Courtois.

Under the large rotunda Mr Corcoran and the PFA did a great job of feeding everyone and providing much needed refreshments.  Reece from Camp Australia kept little hands busy with some colouring and craft.

Thank you to all the families who attended, making the afternoon a huge success .  A huge thank you to the volunteers including staff, Year 6 students and PFA members, who helped with the setting up, smooth running and swift pack up of the event. Finally, thank you to Camp Australia for sponsoring the event and their ongoing support.

Using Reading Eggs at home

All students at CSPS have a Reading Eggs login and password. Reading Eggs provides students with opportunities to practice and learn new skills. Reading Eggs has 15000+ books available to read online. Parents are encouraged to get online with their children and read books. Quizzes are provided to check for comprehension and understanding. Many students are logging on and just playing games. Get involved and encourage reading.
