Grade Two

The term is off to a wonderful start! The students have benefited from the school holiday break after a busy Term 2 full of assessments and reports. We are ready for all the exciting adventures that the second semester will bring. A warm welcome to all the new students and families who have joined Oatlands for the third term.

English

We are learning about information reports and nonfiction texts in our reading and writing lessons. Next week however, we will be starting to look at persuasive texts and how advertisements can persuade us to think and do certain things. There has been a strong connection between our English and Integrated sessions so far this Term and the students have been using the information gained from our Integrated topic as a focus for their writing.

Premier's Reading Challenge is up and away. The students are encouraged to log all their reading on the PRC website. Their login details are inside their Take Home Readers. There is a school wide competition on which grade can log the most reading.

Book Week (14-18 August) is fast approaching and the students are looking forward to an action pack week with classroom book studies, performances, mystery readers, a book trail, Storytime in the Library, author visit and a whole school book showcase.

As we press on toward Grade 3, please continue to read with your child every night and practice their spelling words.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we have been learning a new game each week to help with the students' mental computation. You might like to ask your child about some of the new card games they  have learnt this term, and play them at home. Some of these games include; Go Fish +/- 1, Make 10 and Snap +/1 and I Spy. The Grade Two teachers would like to commend the students on displaying a wonderful growth mindset in math, as they have been working hard on their problem solving skills.

The teachers are extremely proud of the growth, attitude and  work ethic of our students. Thank you again for all your support

Warm regards,

The Grade 2 Team
