Prep Week 2, T3 newsletter
Welcome to Term 3 Oatlands families!
Throughout this term, the Prep community will be participating in so many exciting activities to extend current knowledge and inspire new concepts. The Prep team have had such a wonderful time getting to know the Prep students over the first semester and building their love for learning.
Here are some fun things coming up in the Prep classrooms…
Our literacy unit will be diving into persuasive writing. This concept encourages students to form and share an opinion, including their supporting reasons. Over multiple lessons, students will attempt to convince their teachers and peers to share their opinion through their choice of presentation; such as a speech, role play, song or dance.
In numeracy we are currently extending students' prior knowledge of data. This has been a fantastic way to link our Integrated topic of ‘sustainability’ into our learning while exploring pollution in the community. Using mathematical skills such as recording tally marks and graphing, students have been learning to sort and categorise rubbish found in the school yard or classroom, inspiring conversations regarding recycling and waste management.
Throughout the year thus far, we have also been counting our days of school. In our classrooms each day, students have been representing the number of school days in various ways such as in written and number form, tally marks, unifix, popsicle sticks and money. The excitement has been building since our return from holidays as the Prep cohort reaches closer towards 100 days of school! On the 1st of August, we will be celebrating our 100th day of school with the students dressing up as if they were 100 years old.
Some other exciting upcoming events include:
- Winter Woolies Day
- National Pyjama Day
- Father’s Day
- Grand Parents Day
- Book Week
- Excursion to TwistED Science
Thanks for such a positive first half of the year!
The Prep Team.
