Principal Report

Year 5/6 Camp

Our Year 5 and 6 students headed off to Camp Kangaroobie this week, for a wonderful adventure camp beside the sea. The students have enjoyed some great weather and opportunities to enjoy water sports, farm life and the many features of the coastal region.

I had he pleasure of visiting the students in year 5 and 6 at Camp Kangaroobie in Princetown (Great Ocean Road coastline) on Wednesday. The beautiful sunny weather was perfect for the day’s activities, which included a trip around the 600 acre farm, feeding cows, sheep and pigs, undertaking a challenging obstacle course, and canoeing in the river. Students showed such great care for each other, team work, willingness to ‘have a go’ at anything, and not a device in sight!

It was a delight to see such happy, positive, and active students enjoying outdoor fun and each others’ company. I am sure they will have some wonderful stories to tell when they come home tomorrow.

Are you connected to COMPASS & DOJO?

At Albany Rise Primary School, our two primary digital communication tools are Class Dojo and Compass.

Class Dojo is great to keep up with day-to-day messages, see when your child is demonstrating great values and behaviour, contacting teachers (or myself), seeing what is happening in the classroom (lots of photos) and around the school, including special events.

Compass is used to report student learning, see and pay for upcoming events on the calendar, communicate with the school regarding reasons for student absences, read newsletters and more.

In many classes we have 100% of parents connected via Class Dojo. If you are not sure how to connect, please talk to your child’s teacher or see the office for support.

Reminder: Working Bee Sunday 13th August 9am-12pm followed by BBQ

We have a range of tasks that parents/carers/volunteers can help us with for our next working bee. There is quite a bit to do in our ‘Frog Bog’ area, with plants to plant and some mulch to spread around. Other tasks include:

  • Spreading soft fall under playground areas
  • Trimming hedges
  • Clearing storage areas
  • Sorting & labelling costumes
  • Cobweb removal
  • Gutter clearing

And so much more! We would love to see a few new faces at our next Working Bee- please look out for the notice coming home this week!

2023 Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey- UPDATE:

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey opened on Monday 7 August and will be open until to Friday 8 September 2023.

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents / caregivers / guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey is conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Last year we used the survey results to develop our Annual Implementation Plan for 2023. More information, and the link to the survey will be available through Dojo next week on Monday. We strongly encourage all parents to take part!

Survey links have been sent to all families via Class Dojo, Compass Email and Compass SMS. PLEASE take the time to complete our survey.

Many thanks to the families who have already completed the survey to 2023.

REMINDER: The Book Week character parade will be held on Friday, August 18.  Students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite Fiction or Non Fiction character.
