It has been an exciting few weeks in Science!!
On Friday the 4th August, we entered our Robotics competition. This was such a fun day, where we had two teams of Grade 5/6 students compete against other schools in the Outer Eastern region. Both our teams competed in the On Stage event, where they had to program their robot to perform to a song of their choice. Team Beans programmed their robot to dance to the “Macarena” (along with some good moves from the team as well)! This was a crowd pleaser, with many students, teachers and parents from other schools, dancing along. Team Disco was also a crowd pleaser, with their Robot Cow dancing to “Staying Alive”. Both teams did an amazing job with choreographing their robots, their own team moves and creating sets and props to go along with their performance. We are so proud of how hard the teams have worked over the past few months to get their robots ready and are looking forward to competing at the State Championships, on Saturday the 2nd September, along with another two teams with “King Bob” and “Chicken Wings”.
More excitement in the Science room!
This week has seen the Science room undergo a HUGE transformation, with the old computer tables being removed and a brand new bench, with a sink and new tables and chairs coming in. This has been a welcome change and will make our learning space more conducive to collaborative learning and extra awesome! I can’t wait to teach my Science classes in our new space!
Level 3/4 Learning
The year 3/4 students have been busy continuing on with their Landscape projects. I have been making sure I regularly conference with each group to ensure they are on task and to chat about what they have been researching and what they need to do. Many groups have started building their before and after landscapes and I am already so proud of what they are achieving. They are looking so amazing. It has also been wonderful to watch how well they are all working as a team and sharing out roles fairly and evenly.
Level 5/6 Learning
The year 5/6 students have also been busy researching their Natural Disaster projects. I have seen the beginning of many iMovies, some models taking shape and some posters coming together. The students have been working hard on these projects and really motivated to come to Science to continue working on them.
Last week, we had a small break from the projects and instead turned our attention to droughts. We discussed how and why droughts are considered a natural disaster. The students came up with some really quality ideas about how we could work together to save water. We then created a ripple effect diagram to show how droughts can be extremely dangerous and the effects they have on many different areas of life. The students enjoyed learning about droughts as it is something they realised could affect them, living in Victoria.
