Preparations are underway for the 2023 Art Show. This is a school wide event with every student displaying work to share with our school community to take place on
Wednesday 18th October.
We will be running raffles and competitions on the night and would appreciate donations of items to add to hampers of art and craft materials to be offered as prizes. Typical items include pencils, paints, brushes, felt pens, canvas, craft goods, colouring books or any other art item you can come up with. These could be purchased from the supermarket, $2 shop or any art supply store. You may even have unopened art supplies at home you wish to donate.
If you are interested in being a parent helper for this event, I would love to hear from you. There is no art experience required to help out. Jobs will include mounting works for display, set up and pack up of the show, manning raffles etc.
Foundation students put the finishing touches on their sewing projects, completing the running stitch and filling the heart before drawing a variety of pattern designs around the edges.
Last week students created custom papers, experimenting with colour transfer. This was a fabulous opportunity to experiment with colour as students filled a piece of plastic with waterbased markers, sprayed with water, and lay their drawing on top to absorb the colour. They joy of discovery was fantastic to watch. These papers were then cut into strips and used to start our paper weaving project, learning the complex and fiddly process of weaving in and out.
Year 1 and 2 have finished their fantastic owl weaving project. They are colourful and creative, utilising a great variety of textures to make their work unique.
Students are learning about symmetry and ways we can achieve balance in art. They spent some time exploring this concept with paper snowflakes, folding and cutting paper to create symmetrical works of art. This week students began preparations for some old school string art, using a symmetrical vase shape and adding nails into a board ready to start wrapping next week.
Year 3 and 4 students have been refining their weaving skills, working on a small loom and making design choices to include lots of texture in their work. They are perfecting their pattern recognition skills to create the regular over and under pattern required for the work.
Year 5 and 6 students have been immersed in the world of sculpture and as they used neon air dry clay to create a miniature, but bright coral reef. Students enjoyed exploring this material, experimenting with shapes and tools to create texture and a variety of forms.
