What a busy few weeks we have had in the Health & Physical Education Curriculum!

Curriculum Update

Foundation:

Over the past few weeks, the Foundation students have focused on striking objects with a variety of objects, ranging from cricket, tennis, T-Ball bats and hockey sticks. The intention of these lessons was to teach the students the correct technique in holding each bat, the correct stance and the importance of striking power and accuracy. Students worked both on their own and in small groups to practise each striking technique. The improvement throughout the unit was fantastic and the students should be proud of their efforts.

Moving forward the Level 1 & 2 students will begin a unit on bouncing and dribbling.

Year One/Two:

Over past few weeks, the Level 1 & 2 students have worked towards concluding their unit on striking. In one of the lessons, we played continuous T-Ball/tennis. The intention of this lesson was to allow the students to apply their learnings from previous lessons into a modified match. The techniques and striking accuracy on display was fantastic.

To last lesson saw the students participate in a 9-hole mini-golf course in the gym. The purpose of this lesson was to teach the students all about striking power and accuracy. It was great to see the students all enjoy themselves.

Moving forward the Level 1 & 2 students will begin a unit on bouncing and dribbling.

Year Three/Four:

Over the past few weeks, the Level 3-4 students have focuses on building and applying their teamwork skills through invasions games. The two main games we played were Thief and Yoshi. Both games enabled the students to strategies and develop and understanding of how important it is to be a selfless team player.

We also began our three-week Volleyball program with Gecko Sports. The intention of this program is to build the student's knowledge of the game, skills involved with the progression being able to apply each of these into a full-scale match.

Year Five/Six:

Over the past few weeks, the Level 5-6 students have focuses on building and applying their teamwork skills through invasions games. The two main games we played were Thief and Yoshi. Both games enabled the students to strategies and develop and understanding of how important it is to be a selfless team player.

Mountain Bike Elective

Our select 3-6 students have been working hard during our elective sessions. They have learnt how to conduct a bike safety check and things to look for before they take off for a ride.

We have focused on developing some skills which are required for trail riding such as the neutral and ready positions as well as braking control. Moving forward, we will work towards building our cornering skills and gear changes.
